United are enjoying a solid spell under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has only tasted defeat once since replacing Jose Mourinho in December.
The Norwegian is expected to be handed the Old Trafford job on a full-time basis after his impressive start.
And according to the report, Solskjaer’s contract was the reason behind Woodward’s surprise appearance at Carrington this morning.
Both men reportedly agreed a deal to keep the former United striker at the club beyond the summer in recent weeks.
And the report claim Woodward’s appearance at training today was to further discuss Solskjaer’s permanent stay at the club.
The former Molde boss has reportedly moved out of the Lowry Hotel where he was recently staying – and he now hopes to find a permanent living arrangement for his family.
To add, the Sun claim Woodward is working hard to secure David de Gea’s future at United.
The Spaniard’s future is in doubt due to his ongoing contract dispute.
But Woodward is hoping to keep De Gea at the club beyong his current deal, which expires next summer.
“No updates from me, the club and David are in dialogue, hopefully they’ll agree, it’s out of my hands but I’m sure we’ll do what we can,” Solskjaer said today.
“David’s done fantastic since he came, the club really showed how much they wanted him back in the day when Eric and the gaffer found him.
“There was probably keepers there better at that time, but the belief the manager showed in him with the criticism he got paid dividends.
“He’s been the player of the year for I don’t know how many years, we’re grateful to have him.
“Then again we’ve got Sergio [Romero] and Lee [Grant], fantastic goalkeeper depth, I don’t think there’s any manager in the world who’ll beat me in that respect.”
