With Moussa Dembele gone, and with a host of injuries to contend with in recent weeks, Tottenham have begun to look quite lightweight in the centre of the park, and must make a move for Florian Grillitsch to solve their problems.
The 23-year-old has been in impressive form for Hoffenheim this season, and has done a fine job of establishing himself as one of the most desirable young midfield generals in Europe for the Champions League side.
Already capped 13 times for Austria, Grillitsch plays with a maturity and self-assurance that would suggest he is far more experienced than he actually is.
According to Football.London, Spurs scouts have watched the midfielder on several occasions, with a fee of around £18 million mentioned.
In today’s market, that’s fairly cheap for a player of Grillitsch’s quality and potential, and the club would be well advised to swoop for the young man sooner rather than later.
Spurs’ season is in real danger of going off the tracks, if it hasn’t already, but a new acquisition to solidify and diversify the the centre of midfield could be what is needed to give the squad a much needed boost ahead of a difficult attempt on the Premier League and the Champions League.
In their heart of hearts, Spurs fans will probably know that both are beyond the club this year, but at the very least, a move for such an in-demand talent would signal a statement of intent for next season.
