Robert Pires is urging Arsenal to consider an audacious move to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer.
The north London side are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as the transfer window hands Unai Emery the chance to add to his squad.
Emery will be looking to bring in reinforcements during the off-season as he looks to try and build a squad capable of challenging for the Premier League title next season.
Bale has been linked with a return to the Premier League since his transfer to Real Madrid from Tottenham back in 2013.
Reports in the British media last summer suggested that Manchester United were prepared to spend big on signing Bale from Real Madrid, but a move failed to materialise.
There may be fresh speculation surrounding Bale’s future in the coming weeks and months, and Pires has admitted that he would love to see the Welshman move to Arsenal, despite his links to Tottenham.
Speaking in an interview with bwin, Pires said: “I think there’s a good chance Gareth Bale might be playing his last season at Real Madrid.
“He is having a very tough time on and off the pitch at the moment, and there are a lot of questions about how settled he is in the dressing room and how appreciated he is by the fans. You can see that Bale is an unhappy player at the moment.
“I think coming back to the Premier League is the most logical step for Gareth Bale. There’s an assumption that he would go back to Tottenham, but I would encourage Arsenal to open the door to the Emirates for him.
“I know Tottenham fans would not be happy, but Bale would be very welcome at Arsenal.
“I hope the club tries to see if it is an option this summer.”
Arsenal will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur looking to continue their recent good run of form.
The Gunners are currently fourth and know that a win would move them to within one point of third-placed Spurs.
