‘Oh wow!’ Arsenal fans react to rumours that forgotten man could make shock start vs Cardiff

The last time Carl Jenkinson started a Premier League game for Arsenal was back in 2016 when he lined up against Manchester United during a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on November 19.

Since then he has made just seven further appearances for the Gunners, all coming in cup competitions – with five of those coming this season, the most recent being in the 3-0 win at Blackpool earlier this month.

It looked like Jenkinson – a lifelong Arsenal fan – had played his last ever game for his beloved club in the Premier League, with suggestions he could even leave this month before the end of the transfer window.

But the injury to Hector Bellerin has handed him a reprieve, with Emery believed to have now ruled out the possibility of the former Charlton defender being sold.

And now there are widespread rumours on social media that Jenkinson will start tonight’s game against Cardiff, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles supposedly not in the squad.

Whether that is the case remains to be seen, but it has not stopped Arsenal fans reacting to the prospect of seeing the 26-year-old in action once again in the Premier League.

Here’s a selection of what they’ve been saying on social media.
