A MODEL who previously dated Arsenal star Hector Bellerin has apologised after sharing comments that compared Gunners star Alex Iwobi to a gorilla.
Bollywood actress Esha Gupta shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation on her Instagram profile.
A message appearing to be from a user called Varun_Gupta17 states: “Solves our winger issues.
“I can’t see that gorilla faced Iwobi running down the flank again. He’s so bad ya.”
Her response appeared to read: “Hahahahahaha. I honestly dunno why they don’t bench him more.”
The person then added: “It’s like evolution stopped for him. Didn’t change from Neanderthal to man.”
But she later said on Twitter: “Guys I’m sorry you thought it was racist.
“Was bad on my part, being a sports lover. Wallah never meant it. Sorry guys forgive the stupidity.
“It was us discussing our frustration during the game. Sorry as I didn’t realise it directed towards racism.
“Laughed over the spur of the moment, which was the game result guys.
“Been victim of racism myself before. But this is not something I’m proud of. It was my fault, sorry guys.”
She also said: “Well it was my fault. So got to own up to my s***. Sorry.”
Arsenal told Daily Star Online that Gupta is not an ambassador for the club, despite reports to the contrary.
In a statement, a spokesperson said: “This person not a official club ambassador and we totally condemn racist language of this nature which has no place in our game or society.
“As a club we work hard to break down barriers and ensure everyone feels part of the Arsenal family.”
The post drew a backlash from fans who accused the post of being racist.
Gupta was previously pictured out on a dinner date in 2016 with Bellerin, the Spanish full-back currently playing for the Unai Emery’s side.
They lie fifth in the Premier League table, three points behind London rivals Chelsea.
