MANCHESTER UNITED will have the chance to sign Philippe Coutinho providing they offer Barcelona a substantial amount with the Catalan club willing to listen to bids as they pursue Neymar, reports claim.
Manchester United will look to splash the cash in the summer when a new permanent manager is appointed.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not expected to have any new arrivals this month as the club target a summer spending spree once his interim period is over.
One player who has been linked with a sensational switch to Old Trafford is former Liverpool midfielder Coutinho.
The forward has yet to hit the heights promised from his £142million move to Barcelona from Liverpool 12 months ago.
He has made just nine starts in La Liga this season, scoring four goals for Ernesto Valverde’s side.
Having slipped down the pecking order under Valverde, United could take advantage of the situation in the summer.
According to Italian publication Calciomercato, Barcelona are willing to listen to offers but the Red Devils will only be successful in their attempts to sign him if they submit a respectable bid.
No figure is mentioned in the report but Barca would likely want close to the £142m they paid Liverpool in January 2018.
They claim Coutinho is only an option that could be considered for sale as they pursue their own mega-money transfer in Neymar.
The Brazilian completed a world record move to Paris Saint-Germain for nearly £200m in the summer of 2017 but he is already being linked with a return to the Nou Camp.
Reports suggest Neymar is open to a return to Barcelona amid suggestions he is unhappy in the French capital.
However, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel recently downplayed reports of Neymar leaving the Parc des Princes.
“I think Neymar feels really happy, he’s professional,” Tuchel said.
“I think he feels good here, both in the dressing room and on the pitch, he is disciplined, he does a lot of things on the pitch.
“You have seen his statistics and what he does in training.”
Neymar is under contract with PSG until 2022, while Coutinho’s deal with Barca runs until 2023.
