Man Utd ace injured himself in freak accident as Solskjaer prepares for Chelsea decision

MANCHESTER UNITED ace Alexis Sanchez was injured in a freak accident during their defeat to PSG on Tuesday night after colliding with a linesman while warming up, reports claim.

Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat to PSG in the first leg of the Champions League knockout stages and it was another night to forget for Sanchez.

Goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe were enough to give the visitors all three points and hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer his first defeat in charge.

Sanchez was introduced on the stroke of half time after Jesse Lingard had to limp of with an injury.

But the Daily Mail claim the Chilean also suffered a scare minutes before coming on.

While he was warming up on the sidelines he became distracted by the match action and ran straight into Italian linesman Fabiano Preti.

The collision floored the former Barcelona man but he was able to get back to his feet and replace Lingard just before the referee blew up for half time.

However, he did inform United’s coaching staff he’d suffered a leg injury above the knee and the decision was made to keep him out on the pitch during the break to stop his leg from stiffening.

Sanchez, who has scored just twice for the Red Devils this season, now faces a race against time to be fit for their upcoming FA Cup clash with Chelsea.

United take on the Blues in the fifth round on Monday night and Solskjaer will now have to decide whether to risk playing the winger with a tough set of fixtures on the horizon.

After playing Chelsea, United host Liverpool on Sunday before matches against Crystal Palace and Southampton.

They then face the return leg against PSG at the Parc des Prince on March 6.

Speaking about Sanchez’s struggles this season, Solskjaer admitted it was down to the player to improve his own game.

“I’m not the one, I can’t do anything about Alexis Sanchez,” said the Norwegian after suffering his first loss.

“When he plays, he needs to find himself because we know there’s a quality player there.”

Sanchez is under contract with United until 2022.
