Pochettino makes his feelings on Tottenham’s Oliver Skipp very clear

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters after his side’s 3-1 win over Southampton last night, and took time to praise Oliver Skipp, after the teenager made a five minute cameo appearance, as quoted by Football.London.

The 18-year-old has really impressed for Spurs’ developmental side this season, and his fine displays have obviously not gone unnoticed by Pochettino.

Tottenham failed to sign a single player during the summer transfer window, but it could be argued that there wasn’t actually any need to strengthen, with a whole host of exciting youngsters coming through the ranks, none more so than Skipp.

Pochettino addressed the media after last night’s win, and delivered a glowing assessment on the young starlet, suggesting that he has a really bright future ahead of him in the game, as quoted by Football.London:

“With Oliver it’s only about time. If he is capable of working how he’s working and doing in the future the energy and he’s behaving now, I think his future will be bright.

We were thinking in the last few months to give him the opportunity to play in the Premier League but for different things it wasn’t possible.

I think he’s a player that we believe a lot in and I hope that he continues growing. For sure, he will be, I hope and wish, a great player for this club.”

Skipp will surely have to be patient this season in his search for regular first-team action.

Tottenham have an incredibly strong group of players, and if the 18-year-old is to force his way into Poch’s first-team squad on a regular basis, he will have to prove that he is ready to compete at the highest level.

He is a wonderfully exciting prospect for Spurs, nevertheless.
