Tottenham are reportedly interested in the possibility of bringing Lazio talisman Ciro Immobile to north London this summer. Here’s why the move should become Mauricio Pochettino’s priority.
Tottenham are looking into the possibility of bringing Lazio’s superstar talisman Ciro Immobile to White Hart Lane next term, according to a recent report in The Mirror, and here’s why Mauricio Pochettino should do everything possible to make it happen.
The Italian international boasts one of the most impressive goal-scoring records in world football this campaign, bagging 29 goals and nine assists in 32 league appearances, and 41 goals in all competitions – and now looks to be arriving into the peak of his powers at 28-years-of-age.
It had previously been questioned whether the striker’s powers were diminishing after average spells with both Sevilla and Dortmund – notably under the tutelage of Jurgen Klopp – but he has well and truly silenced his critics this year, and is now certain to feature on the 2018 Ballon d’Or shortlist.
There’s no question Tottenhen have become overly reliant on Harry Kane for goals in recent seasons, and the addition of Immobile would not only rectify the issue, it would make for arguably the most threatening striking duo in world football.
Gone would be the days where Son Heung-min is forced to play the role of make-shift striker in the absence of the Englishman. Also, if all accommodated in a diamond formation; Son, Kane, Immobile and Christian Eriksen could all fit in the Tottenham team in their natural positions.
The Italian would also represent great value for money, having completed his last two club moves for under £10million respectively. Tottenham may not get a better deal for a player of this calibre anywhere else this summer.
