Man Utd told to sign Chelsea and Tottenham stars if they want to catch Man City

That is the opinion of ESPN pundit and former Premier League goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.

United boss Jose Mourinho has devised a list of players he wants as he looks to wrestle the league from their neighbours.

Pep Guardiola’s City have smashed a number of records including goals scored and points won during their title-winning campaign.

The Red Devils finished second, but a massive 19 points behind their local rivals.

And a new defender and winger are top priorities for the Portuguese boss, as well as clearing out plenty of deadwood.

Chelsea star Willian has been linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, and Mourinho is a massive fan of the winger.

And Tottenham defender Alderweireld is also high on his list, who has been one of the most consistent players at the back over a number of seasons.

Both stars have had their problems at their respective clubs as well.

Willian has not always been in the starting line-up at the Blues whereas Alderweireld has been embroiled in contract wrangles at Spurs.

And Hislop reckons if United took advantage and signed the pair, they could help Mourinho prise away the Premier League trophy from Guardiola.

“I think it gets them closer to City certainly,” Hislop said.

“But as we said right now I think City are favourites.

“But I think those two players add to United no question.”
