Five Tottenham players named to final England World Cup roster

The Three Lions are stocked with Hotspurs.

For weeks now all we’ve been hearing speculation about who will be on the plane to Russia as Gareth Southgate makes his final decisions on who he is taking to the World Cup this summer. That moment has now arrived as the final roster for the England squad has been released.

As expected, five Tottenham Hotspur players were named to Gareth Southgate’s final 23-man England roster and will be going to the World Cup this summer in Russia: Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kieran Trippier, and Danny Rose.

And here is the full England roster.

None of the Tottenham players chosen are especially surprising — all featured heavily in qualifying and in the international friendlies leading up to today. For a while it looked as though Harry Winks might have an outside shot of joining his Spurs teammates on the plane to Russia but those hopes were scuppered a while ago after he picked up a serious ankle injury and never recovered.

Kane, of course, will lead the line for England, while Dier is expected to be a regular starter for England, likely in midfield but possibly as a center back. Trippier will probably compete with minutes with former Tottenham player Kyle Walker, while Danny Rose and Ashley Young will compete at left back.
